last weekend we celebrated thanksgiving early so mike could enjoy it before he headed out to the mojave desert for training. since this is his favorite holiday, we made sure to make it extra special with all the bells and whistles. for alissa, this was the very first major meal she had ever cooked, and discovered that a major part of a holiday meal is predominantly time management. now we see why two ovens are ideal! on top of that, alissa is vegetarian so cooking a turkey is foreign territory and required a bit of extra research. but she was able to pull off all the cooking herself so mike could relax to the aroma of his favorite smells.
our meal menu/time schedule
potato rolls
pumpkin pie! also mike's favorite! served with pumpkin spice egg nog
drumroll please...the turkey (and stuffing)!
of course, no 'lissy meal' goes without at least one thing getting burned...this time the sweet potatoes took the hit while broiling...at least we know our smoke alarm is in excellent working condition!
green bean casserole
creamy corn bake
north carolina wine from the historic biltmore estate winery
mike, the master carver, was SO EXCITED about the turkey (and gravy and cranberry sauce)
tgivs centerpiece!
our feast could barely all fit on our postage stamp of a table
post-feast holiday photo
shirls snuggling with her blankie, dreaming of turkey legs
